Attention: New Jersey Vehicle Dismantlers and Scrap Metal Recyclers

The New Jersey Legislature passed A2482, the Mercury Switch Removal Act of 2004 to require vehicle dismantlers and scrap recycling facilities to remove automotive mercury convenience light switches and mercury containing automotive ABS switches before the vehicle is crushed or shredded.

As part of this program, ELVS will pay $2.00 for each mercury convenience light bullet and mercury ABS assembly that is associated with a valid VIN number. No payments will be made for bullets or assemblies without a valid VIN number. ELVS also will provide collection buckets and pay for the cost of shipping and recycling the switches/assemblies removed by dismantlers and scrap metal recyclers.
